Hello Students & Families,

As we are out of school, know that I miss you, our classroom community, and our time together. I  care about you and want you to stay healthy and safe during this time.  I am here for you during this time and if you need anything please email me at hortonja@pwcs.edu .

In order to keep you clearly informed, I am providing a snapshot of our learning for the year, what we have already covered, what is coming next, and some activities that students can work on this week (3/23 – 3/27), and a statement about any assignments that were coming up when we left.  We've learned a lot this year, check this out:

WHAT WE'VE LEARNED SO FAR!!!
VA SOL Objectives Covered 7th Grade

7th Grade Language Arts Curriculum is guided by READING, WRITING and GRAMMAR targets which we address every class period through embedded instructional activities.  We began the year practicing the reading targets through fiction and nonfiction articles, short stories and novels.  Writing and grammar instruction was incorporated into our instruction with daily writing activities implemented through reading and writing workshops.

When the time comes for focusing on new topics, we will continue to focus on these targets as well as provide online opportunities for students to share what they are thinking, questioning, reading, and observing  through their first-hand account (primary source) of this school closure.  Students will be encouraged to make text connections with the global impact they are seeing in our world.  I have created a student journal in Seesaw for students to share their thoughts, questions, and concerns with me and other students if desired.

FOR NOW:  PWCS Guidance directs that there will not be any new assignments or graded work at this time.  Best way to students to practice/review from what we have learned so far:

READ
every day for 30 minutes if possible.  This is the best thing you can do for your academic, social and mental health.

WRITE. You are experiencing a time that has never happened in our world before. Keep a journal of what is happening and your thoughts, observations, questions and concerns. You are a living primary source right now. If you’re interested, there is a journal set up for you in Seesaw to share your thoughts.
