Week of March 6, 2017
This week we are finishing the Pythagorean Theorum and moving on to composite figures, that is putting simple geometric figures together to make something that is much more complicated. You will see how to take them apart and reassemble them to find the area and perimeter.
Week of January 30, 2017
This week we will be concentrating on calculating probability, experimental and theoretical, with replacement and without replacement, and every other little detail. Please be aware that probabilities can be written like fractions in lowest terms, as demimals and as percents. Additionally, be aware of what impossible, unlikely, likely, very likely, and certain mean.
Week of January 3, 2017
This week we will be working with all things percentage. That includes mark-up, discount, tax, tip, and total cost. You will be required to show all of your work and explain why all of the steps are important. You will be able to use this skill when shopping because you will be able to estimate whether or not you have enough money to purchase what you want.
Week of December 12, 2016
This week and the three days next week we will be working on solving proportions and applications of solving proportions. We will discuss the real life applications of proportions and find out how proportions can be used in real life.
Week of November 21, 2016
This short week we are going to be continuing our work with in equalities. You have been doing a very good job with this topic but there are a few things that you need to remember. First of all, pay attention to the details! Remember to look at the signs you have and be mindful as to what to do with them. Next, be sure to follow the steps. That will save you a lot of mistakes. Finally, use a straight edge to do your graphs. You will again save yourself unnecessary mistakes.
Week of October 31, 2016
This week we are really working on all aspects of equations to include Distributive property, combining like terms, and multi-step equations with variable on both sides. This is a real challenge for some of you but I feel confident that you can master it. Just follow the steps and make sure to include all of the examples I give you in your notes. I really appreciate that some of you are asking questions privately so that you ensure your own understanding.
Week of October 17, 2016
This week we will be continuing our study of equations. Remember it is all about the steps! You really have to focus on the "how" to think about the problems and then be very systematic in doing that. Steps cannot not be skipped or bad things will happen :(!
Week of October 11, 2016
This week we will be learning about properties of real numbers and use them to prove how to solve equations. The format that we used must be followed. Make sure to show all of your work and check your answers!
Week Of September 26, 2016
This week we will be focusing on scientific notation and the relationship among decimals, fractions, and percents. This will be more than a one week unit so you can take advantage of the practice time that you will get. I approach this topic a little differently than you have probably done before so take advantage of a different explanation. Have a little patience with this and you will do just fine!
Week of September 19, 2016
This week we will be beginning on the order of operations. We will have a very specific way of doing them and we need to do them exactly as I show you. Make sure that you take careful notes so that you remember what to do. We will also be talking about the properties of real numbers and we will also be doing comparisons of fractions , decimals, and percents. All of this will be done in the next 3 weeks so please come to class prepared and you will do great!
- AAA math
This is a really good website to practice 8th grade math.
- Math Dictionary
This is an animated math dictionary to help with vocabulary in mathematics.
- Purple Math
This is an encyclopedia like site that give extensive information on how to solve math problems.
- Really great Review site
site is a review site for the State tests at the end of the year. I
would also recommend using it throughout the year as well to review.
