Week of January 30, 2017
This week we will continue solving systems, this time by substitution and elimination. We will be viewing powerpoints and videos and taking extensive notes. Additionaly you will have the opportunity to practice on the smart board and with your table mates. Please make sure you pay close attention so that you can contribute to the discussion.
Week of January 3, 2017
This week we will be working on direct and inverse variation. We will be looking at how to identify them, how to calculate them, how to graph them, and the practical applications of them. Direct and inverse variation has practical application in science so pay particular attention.
Week of December 12, 2016
During this week and the three days next week we will be working on graphing equations and inequalities both by hand and on the calculator. Please bring your graph paper because it will be very helpful in this week and next. Colored pencils will also be very useful.
Week of November 21, 2016
This short week we are going to continue with our study of functions, especially the role that slope plays in the discussion. If you remember we started a powerpoint on slope on Friday and we will continue that and view a video that is a great explanation of slope. We will then learn how to correctly label and calculate slope from a pair of points.
Week of October 31, 2016
This week we will be finishing and presenting the function fairy tales that you have been working on. The presentations will be Wednesday and then we will move on to more in depth study of functions and relations. This unit is super important because pretty much the rest of Algebra is built on it.
This week we will be working on solving and graphing inequalities correctly. You will be required to use a straight edge and number them appropriately. All work must be shown as with equations. In Algebra please remember that following procedures in the beginning will save you big headaches later on. As always I will be checking format and asking you to re-do if it is not done correctly.
Week of October 11, 2016
This week we will be discussing consecutive integers and area & perimeter word problems. Then we will start our next unit on solving inequalities. Please make sure to show ALL of your work and follow the format given in class.
Week of September 26, 2016
This week we are moving ahead with solving equations with variables on both sides. In addition, we will be doing literal equations, and absolute value equations. As you know, we work on one thing at a time and then revisit it many many times. Literal equations, which many people find challenging, will come back up again over and over. It is a skill that you use to solve for differing variables. You can also use that skill in science this year as well. Stick with me and you will have a great year in Algebra. Check out the links below.
- An Algebra 1 course all on line
This is an awesome site that totally lines up with our course of study. It has powerpoints and videos and practice problems.
- AWESOME videos
This is a fantastic site to get very useful videos covering just about everything we are doing and beyond.
- Purple Math
This is an encyclopedia like site that give extensive information on how to solve math problems.
- Really great Review site
site is a review site for the State tests at the end of the year. I
would also recommend using it throughout the year as well to review.
- Regents Prep site
This is another resource to help you if you get stuck. It explains things in a little simpler way and it might click better.
