Welcome to 6th grade Social Studies!
This is my first year at Saunders, but my 7th year overall teaching in Prince William County. In addition to teaching social studies I am one of the volleyball coaches at Beville Middle School. I earned my B.S. in political science and psychology and my M.A.T. in social studies education from the University of Pittsburgh. Hail to Pitt!
This year we will cover basic geography and U.S. History until 1865.

I look forward to getting to know all of you and another successful school year!
Every student should have a binder and has been issued a textbook that will be kept in the classroom. Students can bring their textbook home on an as needed basis. On the files and documents and useful links pages you can find notepages, other documents, and materials we have looked at in class. You can also find some extra materials for practice.
March 2017 calendar
Our 6th grade students are going on a field trip between the 24th and 28th of April. My homeroom will be going on Wednesday April 26. We are visiting the Belmont Bay Eagle Center and the Occoquan Bay Wildlife Refuge. The cost per student is $4.00, which will be used for transportation expenses. Permission slips will be given to our students on the 3rd and 4th of April, and should be returned to your student's homeroom teacher by April 18.
Please ask your student about their permission slip, and remind them to return them after spring break. Perm Slip Science Watershed 2017.doc
Monday May 1: Quiz on New U.S. Territories from 1801-1861. You can use notepages 1-4 for help to study. Re-watching the Westward Expansion Brain Pop would also be helpful.
