Saunders Middle School

Principal's Newsletter

Greetings Spartan Families,

We are quickly approaching the end of the year!  One month from last Monday is June 15 - the last day of school!  Please note the following information below.

New Assistant Principal!

I am pleased to share that Ms. Sarah Lanzo, our administrative intern, will begin her position as assistant principal at Saunders on July 1, 2023.  Ms. Lanzo is originally from Cleveland, Ohio and has 8 years of experiences as an educator.  She began her career at Mother Brunner School in Dayton, Ohio.  She came to Saunders in 2019 where she has served as a science teacher, teacher on administrative assignment, and administrative intern.

Ms. Lanzo earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Walsh University and her certification in Middle Childhood Education from the University of Cincinnati.  She earned her Master of Educational Leadership from James Madison University.  Ms. Lanzo has three daughters, ages 8, 6, and 5. She is a proud resident of Prince William County.

Ms. Lanzo is an energetic leader who understands that positive relationships with students, teachers, and families are the key to administrative success.  She is excited about serving the Spartan family in her new role.  Please join me in welcoming Ms. Lanzo as the new assistant principal at Saunders Middle School.

Principal Coffee

In order to keep communication strong between Saunders and our families, I am inviting all Spartan parents to a Principal Breakfast next Thursday, May 25 @ 9:00 a.m. in the Saunders Cafeteria.  We will be serving Chick-fil-A and coffee for all who would like to attend.  I will briefly share some upcoming events and generally be available to answer questions and dialogue concerning the close of this year and the start of school year 2023-24.  If you are interested in attending, please RSVP by emailing Ms. Sally Murray at [email protected]. by next Wednesday (5/24/23) so we may prepare accordingly.

Provided there are no unexpected closures that impact the school schedule between now and the end of this school year, the last day of school for the 2022–23 school year will be Thursday, June 15.

Importance of Good Behavior

Saunders students have been making good decisions and doing great in terms of their general behavior.  As stated last week, Instruction at Saunders will continue until the last day of school.  Please remind your student that there are behavior requirements for eligibility to participate in all end of school activities.   In order to participate, a student must not have referrals in the last quarter.  Participation in these events is at the discretion of administration.
