What is a School Social Worker?

The School Social Worker's primary function is to provide direct intervention in the school setting and a to link students and families with services outside the school.

Here at Saunders Middle School, the School Social Worker is:

  • A trained mental health professional who provides services related to a student's social & emotional adjustment to school, family, community, & society;
  • The link between home, school, & the community providing direct &indirect services to all students, families, & school personnel to promote & support students' academic & social issues; and
  • Involved in providing services to all students. These services include working with an individual family or student, working with students in groups & classrooms, crisis prevention, consultation with school personnel,& finding community resources for students & their families
